BMW PSA engine will be put into production in China

The “5A” expansion plan of Shenlong Motor Co., Ltd. has taken the first step. The day before yesterday, the company’s new engine project with a total investment of 2.9 billion yuan was officially started in Xiangyang. The factory's products will include new cooperation between PSA (Peugeot Citroen) and BMW. A generation of EP series engines, as well as EB and EC engines, will be the first production of BMW PSA engines in China. At the same time, it was revealed that this plant will be put into production from September next year, that is, from the third quarter of next year, the existing Shenlong engine in the sale of models began to replace.

According to reports, the EC series engine upgraded on the basis of the TU engine will be put into production in September 2012, with an annual production capacity of 100,000 units, and will be upgraded to 200,000 units in 2013. The new generation of engine EP developed jointly by PSA and BMW will be put into production after the completion of the first phase of the new plant in 2013, with an initial production capacity of 100,000 units. The EP engines introduced at the time include EP6 and EP8 (1.6T and 1.8T), which will reach 200,000 units in 2015. The EB Group's new generation technology product, EB Engine, will be put into production in 2014 with an annual production capacity of 200,000 units.

In fact, according to the latest production plan of Shenlong Automobile, after the new plant is fully completed in 2015, it will have an annual production capacity of 1.2 million engines and 540,000 transmissions. The dragon's engine will also be updated from the third quarter of next year, and the engine replacement of all models will be completed within five years. In addition, the reporter learned from the company that while focusing on the development of light-mixed vehicles, Shenlong’s electric vehicle planning has also started, and the relevant engines will be put into production at the new engine plant in Shenlong. By 2013, Shenlong will also introduce pure electric vehicles. The relevant person in charge of Shenlong Motor Co., Ltd. stated that for the future planning of electric vehicles, specific information is not yet disclosed.
