The arrival of the turbo era

At the Beijing Auto Show that ended recently, Honeywell, the world's leading manufacturer of turbocharger for automobiles, took the lead with its latest application model of gasoline turbocharged technology, Fiat Viaggio Fischer.

"The latest generation of turbocharger technology combines the latest research in the fields of aerodynamics and bearing systems. Fuel economy and driving performance have been significantly improved over previous generation products, while its engine structure has been reduced by nearly 30%, resulting in the entire system. Complexity and cost are greatly reduced.” Dai Pengjie, vice president and general manager of Honeywell Transportation Systems China and India, told the author in an interview. At the same time, he also revealed that in the next five years, it will provide nearly one million turbochargers to Chinese users in order to welcome the upcoming "turbocharged era."

Dai Pengjie said that at present, the turbocharger coverage in the domestic gasoline passenger car market is 10%. However, with the shortage of energy, low-emission, high-efficiency power products will be increasingly favored by the market, and the popularity of new energy vehicles will take some time, so the increasingly mature turbocharging technology will become short-term. The first choice for energy conservation and emission reduction. He also pointed out that China has a market capacity of nearly 20 million vehicles sold annually, and the prospect of turbocharged vehicles is very impressive. It can be said that as long as the technology is mature, the market will usher in the turbocharged era.

Dai Pengjie introduced that turbocharger technology can reduce the size of the engine up to 30% while maintaining the same power. Honeywell's turbocharger enables the 1.4-liter displacement engine to have nearly 110 kilowatts of power, comparable to a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated engine. At present, Honeywell has more than 30 host customers in China, including commercial vehicles, trucks, buses, and passenger cars. In terms of passenger vehicles, Honeywell's customers include Fiat, Chery, Brilliance, SAIC and others. Currently, Honeywell plans to introduce a number of small-displacement gasoline turbocharged products from 1.0 to 1.4 litres in the next three years to enrich the market supply. Now Honeywell's annual production capacity is 1 million turbochargers, while the second plant in Wuhan is about to be put into production. Its designed annual production capacity is 1.5 million turbochargers to meet the needs of the market.
