Here's a message from Eric Haak: The Pembroke Fire Protection District responded to a third-alarm interdivisional brush fire on Monday, February 20th. The incident started around 10:30 AM and continued well into the afternoon. The affected area covered approximately one square mile of overgrown vegetation and woodlands, located between 5,000 and 6,000 South roads, east of Illinois Route 56. Several structures were at risk during the event. The third image shows the arrival of the interdivisional fire response convoy, while the fourth image captures the use of a MABAS 19 drone to monitor the fire from above. This technology proved extremely useful, especially given the hilly terrain, allowing for a better assessment of the fire's spread and helping guide ground operations. For those unfamiliar with the area, Pembroke is a rural township located southeast of Kankakee, Illinois. Many residents live in older homes and mobile trailers, which are more vulnerable to nearby wildfires. Brush fires are common here due to the lack of garbage collection, and residents often burn their trash, increasing the risk of uncontrolled fires. The photos showing flames are of the back-burning efforts conducted along the south side of East 5000 Road to contain the fire.
