New Lenox FPD news

From the New Lenox Fire Protection District (NLFPD) Facebook page:

A serious incident occurred on Sunday afternoon when a pickup truck veered off Route 30 and crashed into two NLFPD emergency vehicles on district property. The collision caused extensive damage to the two vehicles, which were part of the Fire and Life Safety Division's fleet.

The damaged vehicles included a 2002 Chevrolet Suburban and a 2006 Ford Expedition, both of which are regularly used for public safety outreach and community education programs. The crash happened just after 1 p.m. at Station 1, located at 261 E. Maple Street. One individual was taken to a local hospital for evaluation, though no firefighters were injured in the incident.

"We're grateful that no one was seriously hurt," said Chief Steve Engledow. "While vehicles can be replaced, the emotional impact of such events is always significant. We're working closely with local authorities to determine what led to this accident."

Although the station building itself suffered no major damage, there was some disruption to the surrounding area, including damage to landscaping and exterior lighting. The cause of the crash is still under investigation, and officials are urging anyone with information to come forward.
