Carefully follow the pump power pump transformation witness the strength of technology

The Tuoketuo Power Plant project is a key economic development initiative in the central and western regions of the country. Phase II of the power plant features two units each with an installed capacity of 600,000 kilowatts. The circulating pumps, which were put into operation in 2003, faced challenges during testing and after handover, including excessive vibration and component damage. Upon investigation, our team, along with the designers and relevant parties, conducted detailed on-site analysis and referenced vibration data from the North China Electric Power Institute. After eliminating other potential causes, we concluded that the pump speed of 425 revolutions per minute was too high, leading to system resonance. To ensure the safe and stable operation of the unit, we decided not to follow the owner’s initial proposal to increase the outlet reaction force, but instead reduced the motor speed to 370 rpm. This approach allowed us to retain the existing pump base and outer cylinder body, as well as use molds that had been successfully applied in other projects. Only a portion of the rotor components needed to be replaced, significantly reducing the renovation timeline. Additionally, the motor only required a change from 14 poles to 16 poles, while maintaining the same matching power. The motor was also adjusted to handle the axial thrust effectively. This transformation proved to be both cost-effective and efficient. Since completion, the unit has operated smoothly, with all vibration measurements meeting national standards. The owner expressed great satisfaction with the results. This project marks another successful retrofit of a circulating pump at the Tuoketuo Power Plant. Today, many professionals in the power industry recognize the success of this project. The transformation plan has become a reference model for similar cases in other power plants. It highlights the technical strength and innovation capabilities of our long-pump team.
