In the factory area of Shenyang Petrochemical Group Paraffin Chemical Co., Ltd., located near the Shenyang-Dalian Highway, a single acrylic monomer facility with a maximum capacity of over 300,000 cubic meters has captured global attention under the bright autumn sun. It stands like a silver dragon, gleaming in the sunlight, symbolizing a new era for the company. At noon, in the central control room adjacent to the acrylic plant, as the commander gave the order, the first tank of propylene raw material was injected into the system. The "Silver Dragon," which had been waiting patiently, suddenly came to life, vibrating with energy. Hours later, the first batch of acrylic products was successfully produced. After rigorous testing, the acid purity reached an impressive 99.7%, far exceeding national standards. The control room erupted in thunderous applause, echoing the words: “One successful investment leads the way!” Shen Hua’s team has every reason to be proud of this achievement. This 130,000-ton-per-year acrylic acid production line represents world-class scale and technology. Once fully operational, it is expected to generate 2.3 billion yuan in additional sales revenue for Shenyang Chemical Group. Next year, the entire Shen Hua Group is projected to exceed 7 billion yuan in sales. More importantly, the project has transformed the company's product structure, moving it from selling only upstream raw materials to producing high-value downstream products. This marks a crucial turning point in the group’s development. “Reform is what brought us here today,” said Wang Dazhuang, chairman of Shen Hua Group, before the official launch of the acrylic plant. After strategic restructuring with China Bluestar Group Corporation, the company found its direction and clear development strategy. Before the reform, the company had many ideas but lacked funding and technical resources. Reforms broke through these barriers, enabling the company to realize its vision. In the chemical industry, where projects drive growth, Shen Hua has made significant breakthroughs in major construction projects. Within just two years, the company invested over 400 million yuan in its own funds to launch six key projects. In addition to the acrylic acid project, a newly built 40,000-ton/year propylene oxide and polyether project is already in operation, generating over 600 million yuan in annual sales and becoming the third-largest facility in the country. Meanwhile, the PVC paste resin project, after transformation, now produces 100,000 tons annually, making it Asia’s largest producer. Overall group sales have doubled since the restructuring. From a single refinery with a narrow product range, Shen Hua has evolved into a “chemical new star” in a short time, driven by large-scale projects and high-tech innovation. Reform has propelled the company toward rapid, sustainable growth. Like a rising chemical giant, Shen Hua’s ambitions go beyond one project. In its future plans lies the ambitious CPP (Catalytic Thermal Cracking and Ethylene Production) project, a game-changer for China’s chemical industry. Located just a few hundred meters from the acrylic plant, the site is now a hub of activity. “The process and engineering design are underway, and key equipment has already begun to be ordered,” said Liu Weidong, assistant general manager of the Chemical Group. The project’s basic and detailed designs have been entrusted to top national agencies. CPP technology is a leading domestic innovation in olefin production. Its economic advantage lies in using heavy residue oil—leftover from crude oil refining—as raw material, which is both abundant and cost-effective. Compared to traditional crude oil cracking, it can boost production capacity by nearly 20%. This groundbreaking process fills a gap in the international market. Shen Hua invested 3.6 billion yuan in a 500,000-ton CPP project, the first of its kind in China, and it has been included in the national “Eleventh Five-Year Plan.” Expected to be completed by 2008, the project will add 5 billion yuan in sales revenue and play a vital role in expanding ethylene raw material sources and developing petrochemical products in China. As a Chinese chemical expert noted: “Projects like the acrylic acid and CPP represent the dual strength of Shen Hua’s technology and economy.” These two promising ventures are powerful engines driving the company toward a future where annual sales exceed 10 billion yuan. With a clear strategic direction, Shen Hua is confident and bold in planning for the future. In the next phase, the company will expand PVC paste resin production to 200,000 tons annually, solidifying its position as Asia’s leader. Additionally, the newly established Waxi Chemical Co., Ltd., with nearly 1,200 acres of land, is becoming a new project base. After the CPP project goes online in 2008, it will trigger a series of follow-up processing projects. When fully realized, Shen Hua will achieve close integration of petrochemicals, chlor-alkali chemicals, and fine chemicals, creating a more spectacular “big chemical” vision.
