From the Steger Fire Department @stegerfire Facebook page: Hey everyone, the Steger Fire Department is reaching out to our community for your support. Did you know that our department currently operates with just two firefighters on duty at any given time? One full-time Firefighter Paramedic and one part-time Firefighter EMT or Paramedic. This means that if we get a second emergency call while our crew is already responding, we have to rely on help from neighboring towns like South Chicago Heights or Crete. That’s why you might often see their ambulances arriving at your home instead of ours. With the growing number of emergency calls and longer transport times to our local hospitals, our town is becoming more vulnerable. The proposed levy increase would allow us to add a second ambulance and fully staff Station 2, which is located behind the police station. This is a critical step in ensuring faster response times for residents on both sides of the tracks. We’re asking for your support when the public safety levy comes up for a vote on April 6th. Your vote could make a huge difference in keeping our community safe. If you want to show your support, you can message this page or call the station to request a yard sign. We also encourage you to ask questions here or reach out directly—we’re happy to help clarify anything you may be wondering about. Thank you to all of you who have supported us over the years. Let’s keep that momentum going and ensure our first responders have the resources they need to protect our town. VOTE YES FOR THE PUBLIC SAFETY LEVY INCREASE!
