North Palos FPD fights house fire on Christmas
On Christmas Day, Tim Olk visited the North Palos Fire Protection District and shared a series of powerful photos capturing a house fire in Palos Hills. The incident left a family of six displaced and their home severely damaged.
The Palos Patch reported that a chimney fire ignited an attic blaze at a residence on 84th Avenue in the 104th block. Fortunately, no one was injured, but the home is now considered uninhabitable. Battalion Chief Rocky Carlson of the North Palos Fire Protection District confirmed that the family had already relocated to stay with relatives.
The fire was reported around 1:43 p.m. and took between 15 minutes to an hour for firefighters to fully contain. The quick response helped prevent further damage, though the structure suffered extensive destruction.
Tim Olk’s photographs offer a firsthand look at the scene, including firefighters working to extinguish the flames and overhaul the damaged property. One image shows a firefighter drenched by water while tackling the soffit, highlighting the intensity of the effort. Another captures the extent of the damage, with the house clearly beyond repair.
These images serve as a reminder of the dangers of holiday fires and the bravery of first responders who work tirelessly, even on days like Christmas.
