Luoyang Bearing has successfully launched a domestically produced high-speed finishing mill bearing, marking a significant milestone in China's steel industry. Developed jointly by Luoyang Bearing Group's Railway Passenger Car Bearing Co., Ltd. and Shougang Co., Ltd.'s Third Wire Factory, these bearings were specially designed and manufactured by Luozhou Iron Passenger Co., Ltd. They recently passed a technical appraisal organized by the High-line Small Mill Equipment Technical Committee. Industry experts have praised the product for its advanced technical level and high-quality performance, stating that it matches global standards. This achievement positions China as the third country in the world capable of producing high-performance high-speed finishing mill bearings. High-speed wire rod mills are complex, high-tech systems integrating machinery, electricity, hydraulics, and instrumentation. These mills play a crucial role in modern steel production, enabling efficient wire rod manufacturing and driving industrial development. For many years, China lacked such advanced equipment. The first high-speed wire rod mill was introduced in 1986, and by 1996, the country had expanded to 38 production lines, significantly boosting wire rod output. By 1995, high-speed rolling mills accounted for 33% of national wire production, reaching 5.57 million tons. By 2000, this figure had surged to 53%, surpassing half of total wire production, with high-speed mills contributing 13% of the nation's overall steel output. The Chinese government has placed great emphasis on the technological advancement of high-speed rolling mills, pushing for the localization of spare parts. This effort ensures stable mill operations and maximizes production capacity. Through coordinated efforts, China has developed a complete set of high-speed wire rod mill technology, achieving international standards. The country has even exported precision components like finishing mills and laying machines to countries such as the Philippines, Indonesia, and Vietnam. Finishing mill bearings are essential in high-speed rolling processes due to the extreme conditions they endure—high speed, heavy loads, and frequent impacts. Previously, China relied heavily on imported bearings, which cost substantial foreign exchange annually. To break this dependency, Luozhou Group and Shougang's Third Wire Plant began collaborating in May 1999 to develop high-strength finishing mill bearings. Luozhou Iron Passenger Company, recognized as a high-tech enterprise by the Henan Science and Technology Commission, obtained ISO9002 certification in 1998 and possesses strong technical capabilities. The bearings developed by the company and Shougang No. 3 Wire Factory have been tested for over six months, successfully rolling more than 400,000 tons of wire with excellent performance and stability. Experts have noted that the design is advanced, the process is efficient, and the manufacturing quality is outstanding. This marks the first time China has developed and produced high-line finishing mill bearings independently, setting a new standard in domestic steel manufacturing.
