2-Alarm apartment complex fire in Glenwood, 2-13-16
The Glenwood Fire Department responded to a second alarm on Saturday morning (February 13, 2016) for a fire at a two-story multi-unit building located at 800 E. 191st Place. The incident began around 11:30 a.m., and firefighters faced heavy flames in the attic space, which eventually spread throughout the entire structure.
According to Eric Haak, who captured some of the scenes, the initial call came in just after noon. He described the situation as intense, with thick smoke and visible flames from multiple levels of the building. As the fire grew, more units were called in to help contain the blaze, which quickly became a major incident.
Eric shared several photos showing the severity of the fire. One image highlights the heavy smoke and flames rising from the roof, while another captures the intense heat coming from the apartment building. Fire engines from Glenwood and neighboring departments, including the HME fire engine and a Pierce ladder truck, were seen working at the scene. Additional units from East Hazel Crest and Thornton Fire Department also arrived to assist in the effort.
Residents in the area reported seeing large plumes of smoke and hearing the sound of sirens as emergency crews worked to control the fire. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported so far, but the full extent of the damage is still being assessed. This was one of the more serious fires the department has handled in recent months, showcasing the importance of quick response and coordinated efforts between local fire departments.
