Using the Elios 3 to improve site safety on a mine in Australia

Enhancing Site Safety with the Elios 3 in an Australian Mine

A previously inaccessible culvert at an open-pit mine in Australia was successfully scanned using the Elios 3, completing the task in under a day.

Key Benefits at a Glance

Access

The Elios 3 gave access to areas of the site that were once off-limits—without putting any personnel at risk.

Speed

Thanks to its fast setup, the team finished the inspection in just one day and shared the findings with the client quickly.

Flexibility

When the team faced unexpected obstacles inside the culvert, they adapted swiftly with the drone's help.

Accuracy

The Elios 3 collected precise data used for a thorough visual inspection, which engineers reviewed to assess the culvert’s structural health.

Introduction: Drone Surveys in Mining

Mining operations worldwide must adhere to strict safety standards to protect workers, whether on open-pit sites or underground. Regular inspections and maintenance are essential for safe operations.

Culverts in mines serve as drainage channels and provide structural support. If damaged, they can lead to serious issues like subsidence or landslides. However, their underground location makes traditional inspections difficult. Many only have a single access point, making manual checks risky and impractical. This is where the Elios 3 comes in—an ideal solution for inspecting dangerous and complex culverts safely and efficiently.

Customer Needs: Culvert Inspection with the Elios 3

Azure Integrity, a drone service provider based in Adelaide, Australia, has been using the Elios 3 this year after previously using the Elios 2. They’ve deployed it across multiple sites, including mining and railway infrastructure, to inspect critical assets.

During a recent project, Azure Integrity visited a large open-pit mine in Queensland to inspect a culvert that had never been surveyed with a drone before. The mine owners wanted to improve safety after recent incidents highlighted the importance of regular maintenance.

The culvert measured 80 meters long, 3.5 meters high, and 1.5 meters wide. Due to an energy breaker on the upstream side, the space at one end was too small for personnel wearing breathing apparatus, and water buildup made crawlers unsuitable. With unknown water levels, floating devices weren’t an option either. That’s why the Elios 3 was the perfect choice for this challenging inspection.

Solution: Adapting Drone Inspection Workflows with the Elios 3

Upon arrival, the Azure Integrity team deployed the Elios 3 quickly and began flying through the culvert. It moved smoothly over stagnant water without issues.

However, about 50 meters into the culvert, the team encountered an unexpected challenge: a family of bats. Despite the pilot’s efforts to guide them out, the bats refused to leave the dark space during daylight. Thanks to the Elios 3’s flexibility, the team decided to return at night when the bats would be active. The drone’s powerful lighting system (16,000 lumens) ensured clear visibility even in the dark, allowing the inspection to continue from 50 meters to the end of the 80-meter culvert.

The inspection was conducted using Flyability’s Inspector 4 software. An engineer later reviewed the data to evaluate the culvert’s condition and plan any necessary maintenance.

Conclusion: The Success of Drone Services in Mining

Azure Integrity delivered excellent results for the mine owner, showcasing the value of the Elios 3 as a flexible and mobile tool. This experience highlights how drones can significantly improve efficiency, reduce downtime, and adapt to changing conditions on-site.

In this Queensland mine, the team accessed a previously unreachable area, enhancing safety for onsite personnel while also improving overall site conditions. The client was pleased with the outcome, and the bats returned undisturbed to their home after the inspection.

This project proves the effectiveness of drone-based inspections in mining, demonstrating not only the quality of data collected but also the reliability of the Elios 3 in real-world conditions. As more companies adopt this technology, the future of mine safety looks brighter and more efficient than ever.

Herb Cutting Machine

The cutting machine is suitable for the cutting of Chinese medicinal herbs including rhizomes, fruitages, leaves, and grasses etc before it being fine processed, grinded or extracted,as well as for the cutting process of foodstuff(sliced fruit, preserved fruit),aquatic products(sliced kelp),tobacco leaves, and tea leave etc. This slicing machine is composed of motor, variable speed mechanism, tool rest, step and retreat material, adjustable tool rest machinery and so on. Due to the use of advanced step feeding, so that the cut of the sheet shape uniform, can freely control the feeding distance, will not cause the material extrusion knife bad situation. Due to the reasonable layout, the machine is easy to operate, light appearance, light weight. This machine is mainly composed of two parts, such as conveying and cutting medicine, machinery and so on.
