Northbrook house fire, 4-30-14 (more)

Last night's (April 30, 2014) house fire on Lori-Lyn Lane in Northbrook was quite an intense scene. I managed to capture some photos and even a video that really tell the story of how the firefighters worked tirelessly to control the situation. The images show everything from the initial moments when the fire was raging through the roof to the strategic withdrawal of interior teams and the deployment of equipment like the tower ladder. One of the first things you’ll notice in the photos is the firefighters pulling a supply line, ensuring there was enough water pressure to tackle the flames. There’s also a striking image of smoke and flames billowing out of the roof right after the interior units were pulled back for safety. It’s a reminder of how dangerous these situations can get. Another powerful shot shows the supply line being set up for the tower ladder, which played a crucial role in reaching high points of the building. As the fire continued to escalate, you can see heavy flames shooting out of the roof while crews prepared to use the tower ladder effectively. In one photo, a handline is seen working hard in the B sector, showing the precision and teamwork involved. There’s also an image of Northbrook’s brand-new Ambulance 10, a sleek Freightliner/Horton model, which was on standby to assist anyone who might have needed medical attention. And of course, no fire scene would be complete without the iconic presence of fire trucks. You’ll see Wheeling Engine 42 in action, dropping large diameter hose (LDH) to provide the necessary water flow for the tower ladder. As the night went on, Northbrook Tower 12 arrived on the scene and did an incredible job knocking down most of the fire. Even as the sun began to set, the crews stayed focused, using their equipment efficiently to ensure the fire didn’t spread further. It’s always impressive to see how coordinated and professional everyone remains under such stressful conditions. For those interested, here’s a short video that captures some of the action. Watching it gives you a real sense of the chaos and urgency of the situation. If you want to see more images, head over to shapirophotography.net where I’ve posted a full gallery. It’s moments like these that remind us of the bravery and dedication of our local firefighters. Their commitment to protecting lives and property is truly inspiring.
