Chicago 2-11 Alarm fire, 11-17-15 (part 1)
Chicago firefighters were dispatched to 126 E 47th Street around 10:30 PM on November 17, 2015. Battalion 5 called for additional support due to a fire breaking out in a one-story commercial building. Initially, companies were inside attempting to control the flames, but they quickly decided to go defensive as conditions worsened. Shortly after, the fire escalated to a 2-11 Alarm status. The blaze spread rapidly, communicating to the adjacent two-story building to the east. Tragically, the original structure collapsed entirely, while the neighboring building suffered significant damage, essentially gutted by the intense fire.
The firefighting effort involved multiple resources, including three tower ladders deploying master streams. Additionally, the reserve Snorkel, multi-versals, and the deck gun from Engine 19 were utilized. Weather conditions during the incident were challenging, with strong winds and sporadic heavy rain making the situation even more difficult for responders.
Several individuals contributed photos and videos from the scene, and this post is just the beginning. Below are some images and a video provided by Larry Shapiro. These visuals capture the intensity and scale of the fire, showing firefighters battling heavy smoke with powerful streams and equipment like the reserve tower ladder.
