Garage fire in Wheeling, 3-17-15

The Wheeling Fire Department was dispatched to 697 South Merle Avenue in response to reports of a fully involved fire in a detached garage. As the fire trucks were en route, first responders could already see heavy smoke rising above the area, and multiple emergency calls had been placed by concerned residents. The situation escalated quickly, prompting the department to upgrade the alarm to a Code 4, indicating an active fire requiring immediate attention. This prompted mutual aid support from neighboring departments including Buffalo Grove, Prospect Heights, Long Grove, and Arlington Heights.
