Northbrook house fire, 4-30-14 (more)
Last night (April 30, 2014), a house fire broke out at 1434 Lori-Lyn Lane in Northbrook, and I was there to capture some of the action. The intensity of the situation was palpable, and these photos really bring back the adrenaline rush of the moment.
The first image shows Wheeling firefighters working hard to stretch a supply line, their focus unwavering as they prepare to tackle the blaze. In another shot, you can see smoke and flames bursting through the roof just after the interior teams were pulled back—a reminder of how dangerous these situations can get.
There's also a picture of the supply line for the tower ladder, highlighting the strategic planning that goes into managing such a large-scale fire. And then there’s the dramatic view of heavy fire venting through the roof as crews gear up to deploy the tower ladder—absolute chaos but beautifully captured.
One of my favorite shots is of a handline at work in the B Sector. It captures the precision and teamwork required to manage an active fire. And let’s not forget the impressive sight of Northbrook’s new Ambulance 10, a sleek Freightliner/Horton model, standing ready despite the chaos around it.
The Pierce tower ladder is another highlight, especially after it successfully knocked down most of the flames. You can almost feel the relief among the firefighters as they gain control over the situation. There’s also a great nighttime shot of Wheeling Engine 42 dropping LDH to supply the tower ladder—a testament to the coordination needed during a fire response.
