2-Alarm house fire in Buffalo Grove, 8-26-20

Today, August 26th, 2020, emergency responders from Buffalo Grove were dispatched to 25 Dellmont Court following reports of a residential fire. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered flames erupting from the roof vent of a two-story home. The initial response was quickly escalated to a Code 4 working fire and then further upgraded to a MABAS Box Alarm as additional resources were needed. Firefighting efforts initially focused on deploying multiple lines inside the structure, but accessing the attic proved challenging. The fire eventually self-ventilated through the back of the house, with intense flames and thick smoke billowing out. An exterior hose line was used to control the blaze before crews attempted another interior push. Due to the extreme heat, the incident was upgraded to a second-alarm status to bring in more personnel. Unfortunately, two firefighters suffered heat-related injuries and were transported from the scene. Mutual aid support arrived from a variety of neighboring departments including Long Grove, Prospect Heights, Wheeling, Palatine, Countryside, Libertyville, Lake Forest, Grayslake, Highland Park, Schaumburg, Mount Prospect, Deerfield, Northbrook, Lake Villa, Lake Zurich, Hoffman Estates, and Winnetka. These reinforcements played a crucial role in managing the situation. Attached are photos taken by J Kleeman showing various stages of the firefighting operation. Additional shots showcase the deployment of a quint from Buffalo Grove and the collaborative efforts of all involved agencies. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, but it serves as a stark reminder of the importance of fire safety measures in our communities.
