In addition to this new arrival, the department has also made headlines with the full restoration of their historic 1925 Stoughton pumper. According to Mark Gaunky, the restoration was carried out by retired Lieutenant Jim Carew, who saved the old engine from being scrapped. The project was a complete frame-up restoration, with approximately 75% of the original parts still in use. The pumper features a 350 GPM pump and carries 150 gallons of water, making it a valuable piece of fire department history. Originally donated to the village by Cardinal George Mundelein as a gesture of gratitude for renaming the town the Village of Mundelein, the engine had been in service for over two decades. The original cost of the unit was $7,500, while the restoration came at a price of $65,000. It's a testament to the community's commitment to preserving its heritage.
