SAN FRANCISCO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Build Conference — Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ:ADSK), a leader in design and engineering software, has taken significant steps to shape the future of digital and physical creation. At the Build Conference, the company announced two major collaborations: one with Microsoft to integrate its 3D printing platform into Windows 10, and another to make its 3D modeling tools compatible with Microsoft’s HoloLens mixed reality environment.

The first initiative involves embedding Autodesk's Spark 3D printing platform directly into Windows 10. This integration aims to offer users a more seamless and reliable 3D printing experience, supporting a wide range of software, materials, and printers. To support developers, Autodesk will provide free access to Spark APIs, encouraging innovation and expanding the 3D printing ecosystem. Additionally, Autodesk is joining Microsoft as a founding member of the 3D Manufacturing Format (3MF) Consortium, working to establish an industry-standard format for 3D printing and data exchange.

“The 3D printing market is on the verge of massive growth,” said Steve Guggenheimer, Corporate Vice President of Developer Platform & Evangelism at Microsoft. “By integrating Spark into Windows 10, we’re giving developers the tools they need to explore this new frontier of additive manufacturing with confidence.”

The second initiative focuses on connecting Autodesk’s 3D design tools with Microsoft HoloLens. This means that models created in software like Autodesk Maya or Fusion 360 can be viewed in real-time within HoloLens’ mixed reality environment. For creators, this opens up exciting possibilities—game developers could build immersive experiences faster, while engineers and designers could review full-scale virtual models before producing physical prototypes, saving both time and money.

In the near future, professionals might use Fusion 360 to design a product, view it in HoloLens, and then prepare it for 3D printing through Spark-compatible devices. This end-to-end workflow could revolutionize how products are designed, tested, and manufactured.

“3D printing holds incredible potential, but it still faces challenges in accessibility and reliability,” said Samir Hanna, Vice President and General Manager of Consumer and 3D Printing at Autodesk. “This partnership with Microsoft is a crucial step toward making 3D printing more user-friendly and widely adopted across industries.”

Autodesk continues to empower creators, engineers, and innovators around the world by pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in design and manufacturing. With these new integrations, the company is helping to bridge the gap between digital and physical creation, making advanced technologies more accessible than ever before.
