Autodesk signs EU AI Pact to support responsible AI development
Autodesk has committed to implementing the principles of the new AI Act before it officially comes into effect. This pledge reflects the company’s ongoing dedication to responsible and ethical AI development. The AI Act aims to promote trustworthy AI across Europe and beyond, setting clear expectations for developers and users regarding the use of artificial intelligence.
As one of the first signatories of the EU AI Pact, Autodesk joined over 100 companies in Brussels on September 25, where representatives from the firm, including Clémence Arto, Director of EMEA Government Affairs and Public Policy, and Anthony Ruto, Senior Director of Research Engineering, engaged with other signatories and EU officials. They reaffirmed their commitment to aligning with the AI Act ahead of its implementation.
The EU AI Pact is an initiative launched by the European Commission, encouraging companies to take proactive steps toward safe and responsible AI development. The AI Act, which was enacted in August 2024, will be implemented in phases over the next three years. It sets out specific requirements for AI developers and deployers, aiming to ensure transparency, accountability, and trustworthiness in AI systems.
Companies that sign the AI Pact agree to at least three core actions: developing an AI governance strategy to support future compliance, identifying high-risk AI systems, and promoting AI literacy and ethical practices within their organizations.
Autodesk has been investing in AI for over a decade, using it to enhance creativity, automate repetitive tasks, and provide powerful analytical tools. Throughout this journey, the company has prioritized building trust and integrity into its AI solutions. Signing the AI Pact marks a significant milestone in this ongoing effort.
Beyond the AI Pact, Autodesk is actively involved in various initiatives aimed at advancing trusted AI across industries. These include participation in the U.S. AI Safety Institute Consortium (AISIC), led by NIST, and the Content Authenticity Initiative (CAI).
“AI is set to transform how we interact with technology,†said Mike Haley, Senior Vice President of Research at Autodesk. “We commend the EU for taking a leadership role in establishing regulations that guide AI toward positive societal outcomes. We are committed to using AI to drive meaningful change and innovation.â€
Looking ahead, Autodesk is excited to continue sharing its progress, learning from others, and leading by example as it helps shape the future of trusted AI in design and manufacturing.
