Chicago 2-11 Alarm 9-16-11
Chicago firefighters responded to a fire at 525 W. Armitage yesterday, just a block away from Engine 22’s station. Upon arrival, they found intense flames on the second and third floors of a three-story building that was under renovation. The incident was escalated to a 2-11 alarm, bringing in additional fire companies. During the operation, the structure suffered a total collapse, creating a dangerous and chaotic scene for emergency responders. The Chicago Tribune covered the event briefly, and you can read more about it [here](#).
Tim Olk, a local photographer, arrived after the collapse and captured several powerful images of the scene. His photos show firefighters working from elevated positions, using hand lines and master streams to control the fire. One image highlights Squad 1's bucket team fighting the blaze, while another shows firefighters operating from an adjacent rooftop.
Another photo captures Engine 22 positioned in Sector 4 on Mohawk Street, as the fire continued to burn through the debris. A separate shot shows firefighters standing by in the street, ready to act if needed. One of the most striking images reveals the front facade of the building still standing, while the rest of the structure collapsed into rubble. Another photo clearly shows the location of the collapse on the Mohawk side of the building.

The event serves as a reminder of the risks faced by first responders and the unpredictable nature of urban fires. Local residents are advised to stay alert and follow updates from official sources.
