Still and Box Alarm fire in Chicago, 12-9-20
Just got this update from Chi-Town Fire Photos about an incident that happened earlier today. It was quite intense!
December 9th, 2020 — Chicago Engine Company 38 responded to a fire at a vacant three-story building marked with a "Red X" sign located at 1259 South Homan Avenue. The fire was already raging through the back of the building and had spread all the way up to the third floor. Battalion 14 quickly called for a Still & Box alarm and shifted the firefighting strategy to a more defensive approach. That’s when Tower 14 and Squad 1 really stepped up, using their master streams to bring the flames under control. Engine 23 was supplying water to Squad 1 from the rear, while Engine 44 provided support to Tower 14 from the front.
The situation was critical, and the firefighters were working nonstop to contain the blaze. Looking at these photos, you can see just how thick the smoke was. It's amazing how they managed to get it under control so quickly.
