The Repair Process

1. Start by loosening the lug nuts and lifting the vehicle using a floor jack or hydraulic pump. Make sure the van is securely supported with jack stands.
2. Remove the tires and keep the lug nuts in a safe place.
3. Locate the brake caliper and detach it by supporting the sliding pin and removing the bolt.
4. Avoid letting the brake caliper dangle freely; instead, support it with something like a mechanic wire or a shirt hanger. Dropping it could damage the brake line, causing further issues.
5. Take out the two anti-squeal springs, the old brake pads, four anti-squeal shims, and the four support plates.
6. Once the old parts are out, begin installing the new ones, starting with the brake pad support plates.
7. Next, place a pad wear gauge plate on each brake pad. Also, replace the anti-squeal shims and support plates. Apply an anti-squeal compound to both sides of the inner shim for added protection.
8. Use a C-clamp with an old brake pad or a specialized tool to compress the brake caliper back into place.
9. With the caliper compressed, install the new brake pads with the pad wear indicator facing upward.
10. Reattach the caliper onto the rotor, ensuring the sliding main pin is properly aligned. Tighten it to 25 foot-pounds using your torque wrench.
11. Put the tires back on and gently lower the Sienna to the ground.
12. Sit in the driver's seat and press the brakes a few times. They may feel soft initially but should normalize after a few presses.
13. Finally, check the brake fluid level. It's common to lose some during the process, so top it off if needed.
