The newest station for Crete Township is located at 26730 S. Stony Island Avenue. This modern facility supports the community with advanced fire protection and emergency services. Bill Friedrich photo The Crete Township Fire Protection District, part of MABAS Division 27, operates three fire stations. Their fleet includes a variety of fire apparatus from well-known manufacturers such as Pierce, E-ONE, Luverne, and Alexis. The district also uses Medtec ambulances and maintains three tankers (tenders), with the most recent one built in 2011 by Alexis on a Freightliner M2 chassis. In 1995, Crete Township joined several other south suburban departments in ordering an engine from Luverne, mounted on an HME 1871 chassis. These units featured extended and raised cabs, which were among the largest available at the time. One of these engines was sent to Alsip, while the other remains in service with Crete Township, equipped with a fully enclosed pump operator panel. The latest addition to the Crete Township Fire Protection District's fleet is a 3,000-gallon tender constructed by Alexis on a Freightliner chassis. A unique graphic on the porta-tank cover features a steamer that was restored by Gene Morris of Alexis Fire Equipment, adding a touch of history and craftsmanship to the modern apparatus. This graphic showcases a historic steamer now preserved at Alexis Fire Equipment. It serves as a tribute to the rich legacy of firefighting in the area. Bill Friedrich photo With a mix of modern technology and historical preservation, the Crete Township Fire Protection District continues to provide essential services to its community. From the latest equipment to restored vintage vehicles, their commitment to safety and tradition remains strong.
