This message is from Michael Maida: I had the chance to attend the grand opening of McHenry Township Fire District Station 5. The new station is equipped with a fire engine, ambulance, brush truck, and two trailers. The engine is a 2009 Pierce model, and there will be five firefighters/paramedics on duty at any given time. I was able to witness the flag-raising ceremony and watched as the engine was backed into the station. One of the most interesting features of this station is that whenever they receive a call, red LED light strips in the ceiling illuminate for 90 seconds, creating a clear visual alert. Engine 42 was also present during the open house. I managed to stop by Station 1 and take a photo of the new Ambulance 51. It's always great to see how the department is growing and improving its services. I was told that the department receives around 5,000 calls per year, with about 80% being related to emergency medical services. It’s impressive to see how vital their role is in the community.
