The Fortress Vertical Lift Gate has been produced by TYMETAL for over 25 years and is widely used across North America. Designed to solve space constraints, this gate system is ideal for sites where traditional swing or slide gates cannot retract without hitting obstacles. The TYMETAL Vertical Lift Gate operates as a complete system, featuring a heavy W12x53 superstructure, a robust #60 chain drive mechanism with counterweights, and engineered footings that ensure smooth and precise vertical movement. Steel counterweights inside the columns balance the gate’s weight, reducing motor strain. The gate panel is supported by four truck assemblies with sealed roller bearings, moving along an aluminum track. A continuous loop drive system connected to the counterweight guarantees accurate operation.
Available in a wide range of sizes, the Vertical Lift Gate is suitable for various applications, including high-security facilities like detention centers and military bases, as well as busy locations such as airports, ports, and delivery docks. **Fortress Vertical Lift Gate System with TYM-VS Operator**
**Part 1 – General:**
**1.01 Section Includes:**
This section covers all labor, materials, equipment, and appliances needed for installing the Fortress Vertical Lift Gate in compliance with specifications and drawings. The system must be provided as a complete unit from a single manufacturer to ensure compatibility and performance.
**1.02 References:**
Standards include UL 325, ASTM F 2200, AWS D1.2, and AWS D1.1/D1.1M. Operators must comply with usage classes III and IV.
**1.03 Submittals:**
Submissions include product data, shop drawings, and certifications for welders and welding processes. All components must meet relevant industry standards.
**Part 2 – Products:**
**2.01 Vertical Lift Gate System Manufacturers:**
Only TYMETAL systems are approved, and substitutions require prior approval. Gates must comply with ASTM F 2200 and UL 325 standards.
**2.02 System Function:**
The gate can only be opened via electric or mechanical means. It moves at a maximum speed of 2.2 ft/sec with soft-start and soft-stop features.
**2.03 System Dimensions:**
Customizable dimensions for height, width, and panel size. Additional barbed wire may be included upon request.
**2.04 Operator:**
Includes a 1 HP motor, variable frequency drive, overload protection, gear box with oil bath, #60 roller chain, manual operation, limit switches, control circuit, audio alarm, power disconnect, transformer, and auto-close timer.
**2.05 Motor Housing:**
Water-resistant motor box with security hinges, tamper-resistant screws, and a deadbolt lock with three keys.
**2.06 Safety Cover:**
Each counterweight is enclosed in a 16-gauge steel safety cover.
**2.07 Safety Device:**
A "claw" type device stops the gate if the cable fails. Red/green traffic signal lights are installed on both sides of the gate.
**2.08 Vertical Lift Gate:**
Constructed from 6063-T6 aluminum, with extruded tracks, trucks, diagonal bracing, and optional filler materials. Finish includes zinc galvanization and powder coating options.
**2.09 Structural Steel Columns:**
Two W12x53 steel columns are anchored to concrete footings with anchor bolts.
**2.10 Anchor Bolts:**
Four 1.5-inch diameter bolts per column, conforming to ASTM A-36.
**2.11 Cable and Bearings:**
Galvanized steel cables and pillow block bearings support the counterweights.
**2.12 Controls:**
Operator compatible with standard access control devices. UL Class III/IV compliant.
**2.13 Warranty:**
Three-year warranty against manufacturing defects.
**Part 3 – Execution:**
**3.01 Site Inspection:**
Final conditions must be reviewed before installation begins.
**3.02 Installation:**
Installation must follow manufacturer instructions and comply with ASTM F 2200 and UL 325.
