The Repair Process

1. Start by loosening the lug nuts and lifting the vehicle using a floor jack or hydraulic pump. Secure it with jack stands for safety.
2. Remove the wheels and keep the lug nuts in a safe place.
3. Locate the brake caliper and carefully remove it by supporting the sliding pin and unscrewing the bolt.
4. Never let the brake caliper dangle freely; instead, use a mechanic wire or a similar tool to hold it steady. Dropping it could damage the brake line, leading to serious problems.
5. Take out the two anti-squeal springs, the worn-out brake pads, four anti-squeal shims, and the four support plates.
6. Install the new brake pad support plates first.
7. Attach the pad wear gauge plate to each brake pad. Replace the anti-squeal shims and support plates, and apply anti-squeal compound to both sides of the inner shim.
8. Reassemble the brake caliper using a C-clamp with an old brake pad or a specialized tool to compress it.
9. With the caliper compressed, insert the new brake pads with the pad wear indicator facing upwards.
10. Mount the caliper back onto the rotor, reattach the sliding main pin, and tighten it to 25 foot-pounds using a torque wrench.
11. Put the wheels back on and lower the Sienna back to the ground.
12. Sit in the driver's seat and press the brakes a few times until they feel firm again. This step ensures proper function after the repair.
13. Finally, check the brake fluid level. You may have lost some during the process, so top it off if necessary.
