Chicago 2-11 Alarm fire 4-19-14
"Hey everyone, this is Steve Redick here. Yesterday, I was on the scene where there was a fire at a storefront on Madison and Karlov. When we first arrived, it looked like just another typical storefront fire. But as we investigated further, we discovered that the building shared a common basement with several neighboring structures. The fire itself wasn’t too severe, and it seemed like it was more of a precautionary measure to have the extra firefighters on standby. From the outside, there really wasn't much to see.
The back of the building had a one-story section with a bowstring truss, which is always a concern due to its structural vulnerabilities. I took a quick walk around to get some photos and assess the situation. It’s always important to document these scenes thoroughly, especially when it comes to fires involving older construction like this.
[Attached are some photos I snapped during my walkthrough.]
As you can see from the images, the fire didn’t do extensive damage, but it’s still crucial to investigate the cause thoroughly. These photos give a good overview of the exterior and some of the unique architectural features of the building.
I’ll keep everyone updated as more details come in about what caused the fire. For now, it seems like it was contained pretty quickly, thanks to the quick response of the firefighters on site.
Best,
Steve"
