Meritor Wabco Vehicle Control Systems recall
The following recall affects fire apparatus manufactured by American LaFrance, E-ONE, Ferrara, HME, Pierce, Spartan, and Sutphen. According to Fire Chief Magazine, several manufacturers have issued recalls for specific models and timeframes:
- **Pierce** is recalling 724 trucks. The affected models include the 2007–2011 Arrow XT, 2008–2011 Custom Contender, 2008–2011 Impel, 2008–2011 Quantum, 2009–2011 Saber, and 2007–2011 Velocity.
- **E-ONE** has recalled certain 2008–2011 Cyclone II, Typhoon, and Quest vehicles produced between May 1, 2008, and November 28, 2011.
- **Ferrara** is recalling 104 units of its 2009–2011 Inferno and Igniter models, which were manufactured between April 2009 and October 2011.
- **Sutphen** is recalling some 2009–2012 model-year vehicles.
- **American LaFrance** is recalling select 2010 and 2011 Eagle Fire trucks made between October 21, 2010, and August 25, 2011.
- **HME** is recalling certain 2009–2012 fire trucks produced between January 16, 2009, and November 1, 2011.
In addition, a broader recall related to electronic stability control (ESC) modules was issued by Meritor Wabco. This recall involves part numbers 446 065 020 0, 400 850 179 0, 400 850 195 0, 446 065 027 0, and 400 850 185 0. These ESC modules were shipped to various North American vehicle manufacturers from August 2005 through September 2011. Under certain driving conditions, the system may misinterpret the vehicle's movement, potentially leading to unintended braking on the front wheels.
This issue could cause the vehicle to deviate from the intended path if the driver doesn't react quickly, increasing the risk of a crash. To address this, Meritor Wabco is working with manufacturers to notify owners. Vehicle owners can contact Meritor Wabco at 1-248-435-8001 or their respective manufacturer. For more information, they can also call the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit [www.safercar.gov](http://www.safercar.gov).
